We are currently we are working to produce DRC’s good practice guidance for Planning and Highways Bodies in England, Wales and Scotland on the Disability Equality Duty.

Partners: The BRE-led consortium included JMU Access Partnership, University of Reading, Buro Happold and the University of Nottingham.
A research programme, commissioned under the Building Occupant Interaction Framework Agreement, investigating a range of research projects relating to the built environment.

Department for Trade and Industry Partners in Innovation: Social Inclusion through training
Partners: Royal Institute of British Architects; The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; RADAR (The disability network)
To help raise the skill level of designers and construction professionals, enabling them to meet current Government commitments to social inclusion through greater understanding of new regulations, design standards and that impact on users of the built environment. Particular reference will be given to the needs of elderly and disabled people.

Signage and wayfinding for people with learning disabilities
Research commissioned under the Building Occupant Interaction Framework Agreement. A scoping study to identify the issues involved in wayfinding for people with learning disabilities in the built environment.

Housing Design Standards and Visual Impairment
Partners: RNIB Cymru
A joint research project, funded by National Assembly for Wales to review lifetime homes design standards and incorporate design criteria for people with serious sight loss. Two publications are now available – Housing Site and Adapting Homes.

Disability Rights Commission Snapshot Research: Measuring physical access barriers to services. Snapshot research in 4 town / city centres

Benchmarking and monitoring against the DfT publication 'Access to Air Travel for Disabled People - A Code of Practice'

Using a customer journey sequence at 9 named airports nationally, auditing 18 aircraft (different types), the research found out the industry's progress since the guidelines were issued.
