JMU Access Partnership

Transport

We can help you in the following ways...

Access Audits

For existing environments, buildings and vehicles we can assess your level of access for disabled people and recommend solutions for improvement. This includes all barriers to access, physical features and management procedures, measured against the most up to date legislation, guidance and good practice.

Access Appraisals

For new environments, buildings, refurbishments and vehicles we can assess your proposed design, offer solutions and advise your design team. This can include appraisals of plans, ongoing advice throughout the design stage, advice on products and materials and a post-completion physical audit.

Access Statements

We can write, contribute to, or review your access statements at relevant stages of the project, helping you to demonstrate that you have considered access in the planning, design and/or occupancy of the environment that you are responsible for.

Training

You can benefit from our range of courses, many of which are RIBA-accredited. Why not have a half-day Disability Awareness course for your management and frontline staff and a specialist half-day session on either signage, colour contrast or tactile paving. A full list of our courses is available in the training section.

Signage

Your signage can be reviewed as part of our access audits or appraisals. We also provide specific signage consultancy, including design assessments, detailed reports, costings and samples of proposed designs.

RNIB React

These units give an audio message relating to the location and amenities. A fob carried by a person with a disability triggers your message. It can increase a customer's confidence and independence when in your environment.

Information and Communication

Let us assess your written and oral passenger information. Our consultants assess print, web sites, maps and audible systems (including Real Time Information) from the perspective of a customer with disabilities. Feedback and further training can be vital in ensuring your customers get the information they need to use your service with ease.

Or if you would like us to produce your accessible maps, large print, Braille or audio, please let us know.

Websites

Many people use web sites to check their travel options - a clear business reason for making your web site accessible - not to mention a legal requirement. RNIB can help you make your web site accessible through assessment and/or training. If we consider a web site to be accessible it may be awarded the ‘See It Right’ logo to display on the site. Further information is available from the Web Access Centre.

Ask the customer

We can assist with your consultation with disabled passengers or staff. This can often form part of the requirements of an access statement or the duties of public authorities, or can be helpful in assessing passenger views or needs.
