Disability Awareness Training: One Day Workshop

Aim

To build the knowledge and confidence of the participants when dealing with customers with disabilities.

Audience

Front-line customer facing staff and anyone whose role involves dealing with members of the public in any capacity.

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, delegates will be able to:

  • Find out who their customers with disabilities are           
  • Build confidence about managing customers with disabilities
  • Learn about disability etiquette and appropriate language            
  • Find out how people with disabilities access services. 
  • Identify potential barriers and possible solutions
  • Gain a basic understanding of disability legislation.

Format

A one day workshop for a maximum of 16 participants. Highly participative, comprising presentations, question and answer sessions, discussions and practical case studies. Workshop notes and supplementary technical information will be issued.

CPD

A certificate of course completion will be issued for use in participants' Continuing Professional Development records.

Content

The workshop will cover:

  • Introduction to disability legislation affecting customer service
  • Disability numbers and demographics
  • Disability etiquette and appropriate language
  • How customers gain accesss to a service
  • What you can do - potential barriers and possible solutions.

Cost

Open course: £250 per person, plus VAT for the day or £125 per person, plus VAT for a half-day

In-house course: £1200, plus VAT for the day or £650 plus VAT for half a day.

Alternative Arrangements

Number of participants. The course is designed for up to 16 participants to enable high levels of participation. A similar course can be run for larger numbers with consequently lower levels of participation.

Workshop duration. A half day programme can be provided, shortening all elements, the level of detail and participation.
