Visual Awareness

Visual Awareness: One Day Workshop

Aim

To give participents the confidence and skills in dealing with blind and partially sighted customers.

Audience

Anyone whose role involves interaction with customers or the general public.

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Be better informed aboutt the most common eye conditions and their impacts on customer needs
  • Find out more about who their customers with sight problems are
  • Gain skills in guiding blind and partially sighted customers
  • Know where to go to seek more help with customers with sight problems
  • Be more able to produce more accessible print information

    A one-day workshop for a maximum of 15 participants. Highly participative, comprising presentations, question and answer sessions, discussions and practical case studies. Workshop notes and supplementary technical information will be issued.

    CPD

    A certificate of course completion will be issued for use in participants' Continuing Professional Development records.

    Content

    The workshop can be tailored to suit the business circumstances of the staff or company. example modules include:

  • Barriers and Practical Issues - and potential solutions
  • Overview of different sight problems and their impacts
  • Resources and Help
  • Accessible information and communication
  • How to greet and guide a blind person
  • Sight problems and work
  • Getting about / travelling
  • Technology - equipment and environments
  • Action planning

    £250 per person (plus VAT)

    Alternative Arrangements

    The course is designed for up to 15 participants to enable high levels of participation. A similar course can be run for larger numbers with consequently lower levels of participation.
